CREATING NEW AESTHETICS

b(l)alloon explores the imprint of time through the materiality of the body, both organic and inorganic. It embraces an aesthetic principle in which accessibility is embedded in the creative process itself. Rather than relying on conventional accessibility tools, b(l)alloon discovers and cultivates innovative, performative forms of inclusion that emerge organically from its artistic DNA.

Accessibility is not an adaptation but the core aesthetic principle of the work. Communication and synchronization rely solely on movement, voice, rhythm, and vibration, the fundamental expressive tools of the performing art of dance. At the same time, another presence, that of inorganic bodies, highlights the quiet passage of time. The dancing bodies move within a fluid, performative space, filling it with air, memory, and multiple temporalities, in and through shifting formations of balloons, always on the verge of disappearance.

Our choreographic research is rooted in body music, transforming movement and voice into shared resonance while cultivating deep listening and heightened sensory awareness. The group’s commitment to mutual attunement emphasizes the importance of silence as an active space where stimuli are transmitted with clarity and precision, fostering a relaxed and inclusive environment for diverse and neurodiverse audiences alike.

The balloon, in and through the mutability of its material, takes on the role of witness, narrating stories of bodies vulnerable to time, exposure, recognition, and materialization. However much it may be distorted, crumpled, burst, or deconstructed, it remains a body that persists in existing. It stands there as an invitation to reflect on identities and the ways they are constituted, an indicator of awareness and openness that renders every body visible. Balloon-bodies - allegorical beings that allude to our fragile cocoon - hover in a state of suspension between appearance and disappearance, longing and fulfillment.

The piece is designed for flexible presentation in black-box theatres, gallery spaces, and non-traditional venues that allow close audience proximity and varied modes of audience placement. Spectators are positioned around the performance area, creating an immersive, shared field of resonance. With minimal technical requirements and no use of projections or technological aids,we seek venues that support acoustic presence and sensory clarity, enabling a relaxed and accessible performance environment.
